The third round of Cross-Straits Economic Cooperation Committee meetings will take place April 26 in New Taipei City, according to Taiwan’s Straits Exchange Foundation.

Led by Francis Liang, deputy head of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the ROC delegation comprises officials from the Council for Economic Planning and Development, Financial Supervisory Commission, Mainland Affairs Council, MOEA, Ministry of Finance and SEF.

Liang’s counterpart, Jiang Yaoping, will lead his group of mainland Chinese officials to Taiwan one day before the event.

“During the sessions, representatives will review progress of projects implemented under the Cross-Straits Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA),” an SEF official said April 20.

“Topics on the agenda include the early harvest list, goods and service trade, customs, dispute settlement, industrial cooperation and investment protection,” the official added.

Senior delegation members are also expected to exchange views on the current state of the global economy and share experiences in cultivating export markets worldwide.

The ECC, established after Taipei and Beijing signed the ECFA in June 2010, is a valuable platform for the two sides to resolve economic and trade issues in the post-ECFA era.

SEF Vice Chairman Kao Koong-lian and his counterpart Zheng Lizhong, executive vice chairman of Beijing-based Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits, serve as the conveners of the ECC. The committee gathers alternately in Taiwan and mainland China twice a year.

The first ECC meeting took place Feb. 22, 2011 in Taoyuan, Taiwan. (JSM)
